Kyrkogårdar i skogen / Cemetery in the woods

On Wednesday we drove towards Patton (PA) and tracked up some old cemeteries in the Swedish settlements in which the old places do not exist anymore. Anna-Lena and Anneli has been studying maps and Google Earth to locate them. The church and cemeteries are not always adjacent. Even with the help of our GPS, it was difficult to find the cemeteries. We went deep into the forests and the muddy roads where sometimes so narrow that we almost couldn’t pass.

In Patton was formerly Hebron Lutheran Church and we found the cemetery with the help of the city librarian who contacted Mary C Kane's daughter Lois. Mary herself had belonged to the church before it ended and she had taken care of the church records so we were welcome to their house where the books were. Delighted, we went to the cemetery to see where it was. It was raining so we couldn’t take photos of the tombstone. Mary was kind to us so she let us take photos of the church records and we also had a nice chat with her and Lois.
